Rockstar is treating GTA VI as a single-player release for launch. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, GTA Online won't be announced "anytime soon" — the multiplayer component will get its own marketing campaign separately.
GTA V launched September 17, 2013. GTA Online launched two weeks later, on October 1, 2013 — with a notoriously rough rollout. Rockstar spent months stabilizing servers and adding content before Online became the juggernaut it is today. A similar two-phase approach for GTA VI is widely expected.
During Take-Two's investor call on August 7, CEO Strauss Zelnick described GTA VI pre-order demand as "unprecedented and astonishing." He spoke exclusively in terms of the single-player game — consistent with Schreier's reporting that GTA Online is intentionally off the table for now.
In a YouTube video published August 7, 2026, Schreier described a conversation with Zelnick: "Rockstar is treating Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player release for now. Take-Two is only talking about GTA 6 in terms of the single-player game — they haven't said anything about a new GTA Online and don't plan to anytime soon."
GTA Online as a separate mode will not be announced or revealed ahead of the November 19 launch. The game will ship as a single-player experience first. Rockstar hasn't confirmed whether Online will be available day-one in a limited form (as it was with GTA V) or roll out later.
