Will GTA 6 have an online mode?

Updated 2026-09-14
Not at launch, as far as Rockstar has said. Rockstar describes GTA VI as a single-player experience, and Take-Two has discussed the November 19, 2026 release only in single-player terms. A new online mode is still widely expected later — GTA Online arrived two weeks after GTA V — but nothing has been announced.

What Rockstar has said

Rockstar’s pre-order announcement and platform store listings describe GTA VI as a single-player experience. In August 2026, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Take-Two is discussing the game only in single-player terms and has no near-term plans to announce a new GTA Online.

What history says

GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V in 2013 and grew into one of the most profitable entertainment services of its generation. That track record is why an online mode is expected eventually — but Rockstar has not confirmed one, and an online mode at launch is not what it has described.

What happens to current GTA Online

Rockstar continues shipping weekly event bonuses and content updates for the current GTA Online — we track them every Thursday. Rockstar has said nothing about shutting it down; GTA V’s online service outlived two console generations, and a long overlap is likely.

Roleplay servers

The GTA RP community is already organizing for GTA VI. Our server directory accepts submissions from roleplay communities preparing for GTA VI and from established FiveM servers.
